Fire service issue statement after body found in barn blaze

Fire bosses have confirmed that an investigation is underway after a body was found in a blaze in Atherstone. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued a statement following the incident in Wood End last night.

CoventryLive reported five Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service engines, police and paramedics were called to a barn fire last night. (November 19). Warwickshire Police confirmed that human remains were found inside the building.

This afternoon, Warwickshire Fire Service has said that the barn had been converted into living accommodation. Fire had taken hold across the building, taking crews several hours to put the flames.

A spokesperson said: "Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a fire at a farm in Wood End in North Warwickshire. On arrival, crews found a barn converted into living accommodation that was well alight.

"Five fire engines and a water carrier attended. The fire was tackled over several hours using main jets and hose reel jets, with breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and a drone also in use.

"Crews continued to dampen down hot spots throughout the night, with a reinspection for any remaining hot spots taking place around 9.30am on 20 November. The police and ambulance service also attended the incident. Fire investigations are underway."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service statement added than an ambulance and paramedic officer attended the scene. "Sadly one person was pronounced dead on scene," the statement explained.

Earlier this morning, police said that the body had not been officially identified.
