Fire Leads to Explosion at Southeast France Chemical Plant
An electric fire led to an explosion at a chemical plant in Jarrie, France, on the morning of November 10, local officials said.
Footage posted to Twitter by user @Missrimel shows large plumes of smoke, as sirens and blasts can be heard.
The explosion followed a fire at a plant operated by Arkema Chemical, the local prefecture said. The plant’s internal systems largely contained the fire, the prefecture said, with 83 firefighters also deployed.
According to the Arkema chemical plant website, the plant in Jarrie specializes in the manufacture of chlorine and derivatives.
