Fire Tornado Seen as Beckwourth Complex Fire Rages at Plumas National Forest

A California firefighter captured footage of a large fire tornado while he was battling the Beckwourth Complex Fire at Plumas National Forest.

Video shot by Dean Soria shows the firenado swirling around the forest as he and his crewmates tackled the blaze.

Soria told Storyful that “erratic winds” blowing from the south threw embers in “every which direction”, and also noted that he saw multiple other fire tornados throughout the night.

He said the tornado started in a “flat area of a steep drainage”.

Similar scenes were documented by other firefighters battling the blaze on July 11, the same night Soria shot the footage. Credit: Dean Soria via Storyful
