Firearms officers were involved in a dramatic police chase through a Birmingham trouble spot. Three men were arrested following the incident in Erdington, which happened on Saturday, January 18.

West Midlands Police said traffic officers were accompanied by armed police following reports a stolen Kia Sportage had been involved in a knife point robbery. Images show a car being brought to a stop at the junction of Osborne Road and Station Road.

The red vehicle can be seen with headlights on and what appears to be a dented door. Two police cars are thought to have been involved.

Officers said the incident had been brought to a “safe conclusion”. It was part of Operation Fearless, designed to get ramp up patrols in a crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the area.

Officers have described the operation as a “major new initiative to tackle crime and make your area safer”. They plan to roll it out across other parts of the West Midlands but it is starting in Erdington.

The Birmingham high-street has been labelled a “no-go zone” and it’s claimed some residents are “too scared to go outside”. The renewed police action follows regular reports of violence, open drug use and theft making the lives of residents and traders a nightmare.

Det Supt Jim Munro previously told BirminghamLive: "We know this area has suffered issues in regards to thefts, anti-social behaviour [and] drug taking. We’re working with a wide-range of partners to tackle some of the issues that really matter to the community.”
