Firefighter Dies While On Duty During Flooding

The body of an Italian firefighter who died while working during a flooding emergency near Foggia was recovered on Thursday, September 18.

Footage released by Vigili del Fuoco, Italy’s firefighting and emergency response agency, shows two vehicles stuck in a flooded canal between San Severo and Apricena, in the province of Foggia.

One of the two vehicles belonged to Vigili del Fuoco, and was being used by Antonio Ciccorelli, the man who was later found dead by its colleagues.

According to local news reports, Ciccorelli was attempting to rescue drivers who were stranded near Foggia during a flooding emergency, when his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters.

The other firefighter who was in the vehicle with Ciccorelli managed to escape and is now being treated in hospital, according to Rai News.
