Firefighters Battle River Fire in Northern California

Some 6,600 residents in Placer and Nevada counties in Northern California were under evacuation orders on Thursday, August 5, a day after the River Fire broke out in the area.

According to authorities, the fire, which sparked in a forested area east of Yuba City, had grown to 2,400 acres (about four square miles) by Thursday morning.
