Firefighters were called to a North Staffordshire supermarket - after smoke began pouring from one of its cash machines. A crew was sent to Morrisons in Leek this morning.

StokeonTrentLive reported how the store was able to remain open while shoppers were directed to an alternative exit, away from the row of external ATM machines. Now bosses with Morrisons have said it came as a security measure was triggered.

A spokesperson said: "Our ATM at Morrisons Leek triggered a security measure this morning, which caused some smoke to be emitted from the machine. The ATM is currently not working but we are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible with our maintenance partners."
