Firefighters Cool Down Heatstroke-Threatened Pigs Amid Chinese Heatwave

Firefighters in Jiangsu, China, were called out to help cool down a truckload of heatstroke-threatened pigs on July 12, amid a record-breaking, deadly heatwave gripping the east of the country.

Footage published by Jiangsu Fire, the local firefighting service, shows firefighters hosing down pigs in a transporter.

Jiangsu Fire said on Weibo that they had been called to a service station near the city of Changzhou by a truck driver because his pigs were exhibiting heatstroke symptoms.

They said that after helping to cool down one load of pigs, another truck driver approached to request assistance in cooling down his transporter. The fire service attended to nearly 150 pigs, they said.

Jiangsu Province said on their Weibo page that 31 weather stations, including in Changzhou, set new heat records on July 12.
