Firefighters Have Hair-Raising Ride Through Flames of Bushfire Near Perth

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in Western Australia issued an emergency warning after a bushfire broke out in Wooroloo, east of Perth, on February 1.

This clip, by volunteer firefighter Sam Roberts, shows him and a colleague on a hair-raising drive through the flames, during which they narrowly avoid another vehicle emerging from the smoke.

Roberts said they were trying to get through to a truck that had been overrun by the fire.

“Going to be a long few days,” Roberts told Storyful.

Local news said at least seven homes were destroyed and two firefighters were injured.

The DFES said in their warning that for people east of Bailup Road and west of Toodyay Road it was too late to leave. Others were advised to leave, taking note of road closures. Credit: Sam Roberts via Storyful
