Firefighters work through the night after blaze consumes Kent home
Firefighters have worked through the night after a large fire took hold of a home in Herne Bay on Friday evening (January 31). Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to the scene on Grand Drive at around 6.45pm.
Residents in the surrounding area were urged to keep windows and doors closed as large plumes of smoke filled the air.
A road closure was soon implemented on Grand Drive as six fire engines and a height vehicle were used to bring the flames under control.

Residents had evacuated the property prior to the arrival of emergency responders. While firefighters worked through the night, KFRS urged anyone travelling near Grand Drive to avoid the area.
In an update shared at 3am on Saturday morning, the fire service confirmed that the fire had been successfully extinguished and responders were working to dampen remaining hot spots.
KFRS then stated at 6am that all firefighting operations had been completed and the road closure had been lifted.
The full KFRS update stated: “Firefighting operations have now finished at a house in Grand Drive, Herne Bay. Earlier warnings to avoid the area, due to road closures, have now been lifted.
“Residents evacuated the property before crews arrived. At the height of the incident, six fire engines, a height vehicle, were in attendance as crews, wearing breathing apparatus, extinguished the flames using hose reel jets and main jets.
"The cause is not yet known, but is being investigated.”
