Firefighters Rescue 30 Motorists Trapped in Floodwaters at Milan Airport

Crews rafted through floodwaters at Milan-Malpensa Airport in Ferno, Italy, on September 16 as part of an operation to rescue 30 people trapped in vehicles amid heavy rains and flooding, Italy’s Vigili del Fuoco said.

According to local reports, extreme weather disrupted travel at several airports in Lombardy, as flights had to be diverted. Over three inches of rain fell at Milan-Malpensa in less than two hours, more precipitation than the area sometimes receives in a month. Credit: Vigili del Fuoco via Storyful
