Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service came to the aid of a three-year-old named Zeva who found herself in an uncomfortable situation this week - with her head stuck in a toilet seat.

After becoming ensnared in yellow, plastic novelty seat - which appears to be shaped like a duck - Zeva was taken to Ilkeston fire station.

According to the DerbyshireFRS Twitter account, the team there put Peppa Pig on the TV to distract her, then cut the seat to remove it.

"She was a very brave girl," a spokesperson added.

Last year, a 15-year-old girl from Alabama became a star on social media following a similar, yet slightly more spectacular, lapse of judgement.

Darby Risner had some friends staying over for a sleepover when she decided to give them a fright by putting a huge plush Barney the Dinosaur mask on her head – which she then got stuck in.

“I want[ed] to scare my friends, so I put it on and waited for them to come downstairs,” Darby told reporters. “It didn’t scare them.”

Her ‘prank’ having proved something of a damp squib, she then tried to remove the oversized dinosaur mask – and realised she was stuck tight.

Eventually Darby’s parents drove her to Trussville Fire Department, where the (highly amused) firefighters on duty spent an hour trying to pull the head off.

"She's so little that when they lifted the head, it lifted her off the ground so they had to hold down her feet," Trussville Fire Lt. Vince Bruno told AL.com. "And with the Vaseline on her arms, they said it was like trying to wrestle a greased pig."

Eventually the firefighters used a tool to cut slits in the dinosaur head, and with one last, determined pull, it finally came loose.
