An unusual 999 call was made to firefighters in Nuneaton - to help a pigeon trapped in cavity wall. Blue watch from the Newtown Road based station responded to the plea for help in the Barpool area of town yesterday afternoon (June 1).

The crew were called to Barpool Road as a pigeon was trapped in a cavity wall. They managed to free the bird and then release it back into the wild.

Later last night, they responded to reports of smoke coming from Hartshill Hayes Country Park. It was found to be from a disposable barbecue.

As the weather is set to be warm today (June 2), the station is keen to remind people about the dangers of disposable barbecues, especially using them in green spaces.

Barbecues are banned from all of Warwickshire County Council's country parks, including Hartshill Hayes, due to the risk of causing wildfires.
