Firefighters rush to pump water out of flooded basement in early morning call

Firefighters have rushed to an incident this morning (January 26) in an Essex town to a basement that is flooded. Crews are currently on scene in Benfleet following a report made to them earlier this morning.

Fire crews were called out to Rayleigh Road at around 6.30am to reports of a basement flooded. Crews are working to clear the property's basement full of water and make the scene safe.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said there is no wider risk to the community and no one has been injured. A spokesman said: "Firefighters were called to an incident on Rayleigh Road, Benfleet this morning.

"Crews have been working to pump water out of a flooded basement." Crews from Southend, Rayleigh Weir, Leigh, Witham and Harlow attended the scene.

Group Manager Mark Eaglestone said: "We've got a number of crews dealing with an incident on Rayleigh Road in Benfleet this morning. Please rest assured that there is no risk to the community."
