Firefighters Spray Water Along Railway Lines as Fires Damage Sydney Rail Infrastructure

Emergency response units worked with firefighters to protect rail lines to the west of Sydney on the weekend before Christmas, as seen in this video released by Sydney Trains.

The video shows a firefighter spraying foliage near the railway line. Sydney Trains said it was taken at Mount Victoria in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales (NSW). Sydney Trains said it had received reports that their signalling infrastructure in the area of Mount Victoria had been damaged by the fires.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklia visited the Blue Mountain area on Monday where she was cited by the Sydney Morning Herald as saying she was grateful more lives had not been lost after witnessing how close the fire came to suburban areas.

The NSW Rural Fire Service said on December 23 that, as of 10 pm, 94 fires continued to burn across the state, with 58 yet to be contained. Credit: Sydney Trains via Storyful
