Firefighting Plane Drops Retardant on Alisal Fire Near Gaviota, California

Firefighters in California made progress containing the Alisal fire burning northwest of Santa Barbara overnight October 14 into October 15.

As of October 15, the fire was 16,901 acres in size and was 41 percent contained, according to official reports.

Containment jumped overnight from five percent, according to local reports, as evacuations were ordered in the town of Gaviota.

A total of 1,751 personnel were fighting the fire in Santa Barbara County, which was first reported on Monday afternoon. Its cause was under investigation.
