Forget about cats in trees - one teenager had a much more serious excuse for calling on the fire brigade after he got stuck in a basketball hoop.

Daredevil Dzoskun Idaetf, 17, was hanging around a basketball court in Groepelingen, Germany, one evening with his best friend Dzhenan, 22.

Fancying a challenge, he decided to climb up the basket hoop - but when he wanted to get down again, he found his foot was stuck.

Dzoskun said: “I simply wanted to get up high. Through the metal chains of the hoop I managed to climb up with the help of my friend. But suddenly I got stuck. To be honest I was terrified I would fall down.”

His friend called the emergency services, and the fire brigade worked to free the unlucky teenager, eventually getting him down using a ladder.

He said: “I was up there for half an hour. Thankfully the firefighters helped me, I was worried the hoop might break and I could have ended up badly injuring myself.”

Dzoskun’s friends can have a laugh about the pictures that were taken of the situation, which have sense gone global.

He said: “They nicknamed me King Kong and SpiderMan, but I don’t mind.”

Fire brigade spokesman Michael Richartz said people should be more careful about foolhardy climbing stunts.

He said: “Such climbs can be very dangerous. He could have plunged down head-first when he got stuck with his foot.”
