Fires Burn Near Bastille Square in Paris During Protests Against Security Bill

Tensions escalated during protests in Paris on November 28 as thousands took to the streets over a new law that would restrict sharing images of police officers.

A controversial provision of the law would make it a crime to publish photos or video footage of police officers on duty with intent to harm their “physical or psychological integrity.” The nationwide protests on Saturday came after footage showing officers beating a Black man went viral. President Emmanuel Macron condemned the footage on Friday and called it an “unacceptable attack.”
