First Dates' Fred Sirieix has said that he'd absolutely welcome Paul Cattermole back on the show, calling the S Club 7 singer a "lovely chap".

The nation's favourite maître d' revealed that he didn't see any of the reactions to Paul's date, during which Paul eloquently reflected on his time in the pop group before becoming emotional at the end of his date, but it was a celebratory journey for the former popstar.

"I met him in the flesh and had a conversation with him and with other people and I thought he was a lovely chap, and everybody has their own difficulties and quirks in life and our own battles," Fred said.

"All I can say is that when I was with him he was a really nice man and I have nothing bad to say about him. He was lovely to meet.

"He was just looking for love, he just happened to be someone in the public eye – it's possible that he could come on [again] because people do return. If you don't feel kindness for others, you're missing out."

Fred also added that the celebrity mix on Channel 4's First Dates Hotel was particularly "powerful" when Blue's Duncan James spoke about the challenges of being gay in the public eye.

"It was very powerful especially when Duncan said he'd never been openly gay and when we talked about how he came out and how he had to hide it," Fred continued.

"I thought it was beautiful – people are normal people like everyone else. I was very pleased for him and he was a very nice man and I thought it was very powerful and inspiring."

And on his favourite guest so far, he recalled: "I really enjoyed Pete Wicks. He's a very funny, naughty boy, and I like a naughty boy. He just made me laugh. He really did make me laugh, really nice guy."

Meanwhile, Fred is launching his own podcast Oh Là Là! with Expedia, in which he chats with an array of celebrity guests about the joy of life and "what makes them tick".

"One thing I'm very fascinated about is what makes people tick, what makes them happy – the meaning of life has always been a quest of mine, and what makes them who they are," he explained.

"So I thought, let's do a podcast called Oh Là Là! because it's about joie de vivre, and when you say, 'Oh Là Là', it makes people smile and it makes people happy to talk to guests about their life and explore their hearts and minds, to see what lies at the bottom and what's important for them."

Guests include Strictly's Shirley Ballas, Gordon Ramsay, Gino D'Acampo and Sadie Frost.

Fred's podcast Oh Là Là'! launches soon.

First Dates Hotel airs on Channel 4.
