First Dates returned on Tuesday night (April 23) with a new batch of hopefuls looking for love.

But one dater suffered an unfortunately embarrassing end to his date, when his credit card was declined, after he’d spent most of the dinner talking about how posh he was.

Flower seller Calum was searching for love on the show because he spends most of his time chatting up ‘yummy mummies’ and is now looking for a girl to reel him in from his party lifestyle.

He was set up with project manager Lucy, who has had her heart broken by bad boys and was now after someone ‘nice’.

Their date got off to a pretty good start as they bonded over their love of skiing and discovered they’d both done an instructor course at the same place.

But Calum also spent a lot of the time speaking about his posh credentials, including attending public school and his father being a "city boy" who made enough money to retire at 50, while his mother was a former actress.

However, despite sounding like a real catch in the financial department, Calum suffered an epic embarrassment when he went to pay the bill and his card was declined.

Lucy then offered to pay, but a red-faced Calum told her it was okay and he just had to transfer some money into another account.

When his card was declined again, Calum then politely asked the waitress to come back in a few minutes.

Viewers were left in hysterics at the awkward moment, which had only been enhanced by Calum's bragging up to this point.

But despite the embarrassing card incident, Lucy decided she did want another date with Calum, as long as he stopped calling her 'lovely'.

The two then celebrated with a high-five, and we later found out that on their second date Calum's card wasn't declined.

First Dates airs on Channel 4.
