First Dates viewers ‘cringe’ as couple clashes over Brexit

Viewers were left ‘cringing’ after a couple awkwardly disagreed about Brexit in an episode of Channel 4 dating show First Dates.

Despite being a similar age and sharing a passion for activism Lette, 23 and Fred, 26 discovered they were on opposite sides of the political spectrum when the conversation turned to the contentious issue of leaving the EU.

The pair clearly didn't agree that discussing politics on a first date was a bad idea as Fred quizzed Lette on whether she voted leave vs remain.

But both Lette and Fred said they’d be willing to date someone who didn’t share their views.

Fred explained: “Quite frankly, I don’t want to just be agreed with all the time,” while his date agreed “Yeah, it’s boring”.

However, he appeared to be regretting his comments after Lette revealed she’d voted to leave the EU.

“Let’s struggle gamely on, as Boris Johnson would say. I did campaign to remain,” he commented.
