Mercedes has released the first official image of its upcoming AMG-branded electric SUV.
Following the electric four-door GT, the high-performance SUV will be the second model based on the new AMG.EA platform.
Mercedes has said the full-size EV SUV is built "entirely in-house," with the AMG.EA architecture boasting axial-flux electric motors and new battery tech.
Mercedes-AMG is preparing to launch a pair of high-performance electric models. Along with a four-door GT that was teased earlier this year, the Affalterbach-based brand today released the first official image of the upcoming SUV model. Both of these hi-po EVs will be built on the new AMG.EA platform.
The lone photo shows a prototype version of the full-size SUV covered in camouflage and driving on a divided highway. The overall shape looks slippery, albeit less like a jelly bean than Mercedes's current electric SUVs such as the AMG EQE53. It's expected that the incoming EVs will take inspiration from the Mercedes Vision AMG concept, which melded curvy bodywork with distinctive lighting. Of course, it's difficult to clearly decipher many design details on the SUV with all the heavy camouflage.
When it was first teased back in November, Mercedes-AMG announced that the upcoming high-performance SUV would be the second model based on the AMG.EA platform. Built "entirely in-house," it will be AMG's first dedicated SUV. It also benefit from new battery technology and axial-flux electric motors. The latter are more power dense and feature better packaging than traditional radial-flux motors.
The same hardware will debut on the AMG four-door GT, which is expected to launch sometime next year as a 2026 model. With the unnamed AMG EV SUV having started winter testing in Northern Sweden, it's on a similar development cycle and should arrive soon after the sedan.
