First look inside Huddersfield's fire hit Three Acres pub as revamp steps up

Huddersfield gastro-pub The Three Acres has released a video showing the extent of refurbishment work on the building since it was devastated by a fire on Boxing day last year.

The Three Acres owners Tom and Lauren Truelove have spoken about how they are using the space available to 'open up' the restaurant, retain the old features of the building and modernise them.

The husband and wife pub owners are creating a space that will be able to cater for around 100 party/wedding guests.

They also want to create more space for drinking, following feedback from customers who said that there wasn't quite enough space for people to have pre-dinner drinks.

Speaking about the restaurant’s new kitchen starting to take shape, Tom says: "[The kitchen] has been the first exciting part of the job really. Being in that space you start to imagine how it will feel, and the last week [of progress] has been amazing."

Lauren says: "Despite the horrific fire, it’s enabled us to open up the restaurant….it’s enabled us to keep all the old parts of the building but modernise them in a way that works better without it looking any more modern than it ever was."

The couple also reveal plans for a reworked indoor wedding and event space that will feature exposed ceiling beams and an increase in capacity to accommodate around 100 seated guests.

Lauren added: "It feels like there’s a huge amount of work to do… but we’ve got a great team helping us so…we’ll get there. We’re just so excited for it to reopen."

Tom says he is 'pushing' for a firm reopening date so they can start filling the diary with events and bookings.

The aim is to reopen the pub, at Roydhouse, near Shelley, in 2025.
