Yahoo News First look at Jodie Whittaker in new Doctor Who VR special
Doctor Who won't be back properly until next year for its 12th series, but Jodie Whittaker has a very exciting adventure coming for fans much sooner than that!
Jodie is reprising her role as the 13th Doctor for an interactive VR special titled Doctor Who: The Runaway, where fans will be able to board the TARDIS for an all-new adventure through time and space.
Below is the first look at The Runaway:
This 12-minute animated episode will let the viewer act as the companion piloting the TARDIS with The Doctor as they face one of the universe's most deadly threats. We'll leave you guessing on who that could be.
Just like the full live-action series, Doctor Who: The Runaway will feature original music from Segun Akinola. It has been written by Turn Up Charlie's Victoria Asare-Archer and directed by VR veteran Mathias Chelebourg.
"Fans will experience the TARDIS like never before in this thrilling new interactive story," BBC digital drama director Jo Pearce promised.
"As ever, The Doctor is full of warmth, wit and charm – helped by a wonderful performance from Jodie – which puts fans at the heart of the story as they immerse themselves in this beautifully animated world.”
Doctor Who: The Runaway will be made available on selected VR headsets over the coming months.
Jodie Whittaker is also hard at work with co-stars Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill on series 12, which kicked off its production in South Africa last month.
Although fans are likely disappointed that The Doctor won't be back on BBC One this year, the BBC's Director General Tony Hall did recently promise that series 12 will premiere in "very early 2020".
Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.
