Get a First Look at Netflix's New Fashion Competition Show Starring Tan France and Alexa Chung

Calling all fashion fans! Tastemakers Tan France and Alexa Chung are teaming up to find the industry’s newest designer.

The Queer Eye star, 36 and the model-turned-designer, 36, are joining forces for a new Netflix fashion competition show (think Project Runway meets The Great British Bake Off) in search of the next generation of designers.

Premiering on Jan. 29 on the streaming service, the 10-episode series brings together 18 contestants who will compete to win a $250,000 prize from fashion retailer Net-a-Porter (whose global buying director Elizabeth von der Goltz is a guest judge on the show) and the option for the winning designer to debut his or her collection with the retailer.

“We scoured the earth for some of the best designers in the world,” Chung says in the debut Next in Fashion trailer.

PEOPLE has a first look at the pilot episode, which showcases the laughs, tears and innovative designers featured in the show.

In the clip, co-hosts France and Chung first “get to know” the designers, asking which celebrities they have dressed (Beyoncé was one designer’s A-list client), where they studied fashion and who each designer considers a household name.

But when none of the 18 contestants credits themselves as a household name, Chung responds by saying: “Maybe not any of you just yet. But that’s exactly why we’re here, because for one of you, that’s a dream that’s about to come true.”

Equally as exciting as the design competition is the dynamic duo of France and Chung.

“Me and Ol’ WW (work wife), kicking off press for our new show, @nextinfashion. Launches NEXT WEDNESDAY!!,” France captioned an Instagram of him and Chung.

“Elevated, with my ww [work wife],” the Queer Eye star echoed in another post.

During an appearance on Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show on Sky on Friday, Chung shared the story of the first time she me her co-host.

“We’ve met once at a party where I was drunk,” she said on the radio show, as first reported by The Sun. “It was in London. And Tan walked into Victoria Beckham’s Fashion Week party. We were both alone, we didn’t have anyone. And when Tan walked in, I screamed into his face. I was a huge fan of Queer Eye. So I was [like], ‘Ah it’s that guy!'”

France added that he “confessed his love” for Chung. “I’ve been a fan of hers for years,” he explained.

Neither France nor Chung are strangers to the fashion industry; France is the style expert on his Netflix reality show, Queer Eye and Chung created her own eponymous fashion line in 2017 after her long career as a model.

Plus, the Netflix series has recruited a high-fashion line-up of guest judges, from celebrity stylists Elizabeth Stewart and Jason Bolden to couture designers (including Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond, Prabal Gurung, Phillip Lim and Tommy Hilfiger) and models like Adriana Lima.

Next in Fashion airs Jan. 29 on Netflix.
