E4 shares first look at Sir Trevor McDonald in 'GamesMaster' reboot

GamesMaster fans have been given their first look at Sir Trevor McDonald in the reboot of the 90s video game TV show.

The newsreader was known to be on board for the show, which will be relaunched on E4, but it wasn’t clear which role he’d play.

However, it has now been confirmed that Sir Trevor will be the titular GamesMaster, taking over from the late Sir Patrick Moore.

According to Metro, the series will see celebrities, gaming stars and fans taking part in various video game related challenges in a bid to win the coveted Golden Joystick trophy.

The 82-year-old broadcaster will be tasked with setting up and explaining all the games.

Sir Trevor will join a presenting line-up of writer, actor and gaming expert Robert Florence, esports host Frankie Ward and new E4 star Ty Logan.

Viewers were thrilled to get a look at the newsreader in his new role.

“Looks cool, a wonderful successor,” one person wrote on Twitter, while another called it “epic”.

“This is insane!” said another.

“GamesMaster is still the greatest ever gaming show,” posted one.

Speaking when the show was announced, Sacha Khari, Channel 4’s head of digital commissioning, said: "GamesMaster was a household name back in the 90s and this new revamped version for social and E4 retains the elements that made this show so special, whilst also bringing it bang up to date, improving game quality and bringing in fresh and current names to tackle the trickiest GamesMaster challenges yet.”

GamesMaster originally aired on Channel 4 from 1992 to 1998.
