Tributes to 'lovely' Justyna Kalandyk, 29, killed in Tulse Hill 'multiple hit-and-run'

Tributes have been paid to a "lovely" young woman killed in a suspected multiple hit and run in south London.

Detectives believe Justyna Kalandyk, 29, died after being hit by two lorries and two cars as she used a pedestrian crossing in Tulse Hill, around 6.45am on December 11.

Ms Kalandyk was originally from Poland but had been staying with relatives in Wandsworth.

Her devastated family flew in from Poland last week to identify her body and visit the scene of the accident, where floral tributes have been laid.

Ms Kalandyk’s friend Justyna Rybak said: “She was a lovely person and her family are devastated.

“That is a dangerous crossing — there needs to be a full investigation,” Ms Rybak added.

The 49-year-old male driver of the first lorry involved has been interviewed under caution.

The 52-year-old male driver of the second car was arrested the following day on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and has been released under investigation.

At today’s hearing, coroner Andrew Harris asked Detective Constable Jennifer Burr, who is leading the police investigation: “Is it true this is being investigated as a possible crime?” to which the police officer responded “yes”.

She added: “No one has been charged yet but someone may be charged.”

The coroner said: “There is CCTV evidence that a pedestrian was hit by more than one vehicle.”

The coroner adjourned the inquest and said that it would not be resumed until the police investigation had been completed.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses, particularly motorists with dashcam footage.

Detective Sergeant Alastair Middleton said: “Even though we have traced all the vehicles that we believe were involved, I continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision and the moments afterwards to contact us immediately.”
