First picture of 'most loving' boy, 9, found dead in Scots woods

A nine-year-old boy who died in an area of a Scots wood in Lanarkshire on Sunday has been named as Jordan Moore.

Police were called to a report of concern for a child in a wooded area near Abbeygreen Road in Lesmahagow, at around 6.50pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but sadly, Jordan was pronounced dead.

At the time of the incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.50pm on Sunday, 2 June, 2024, we were called to a report of concern for a child in a wooded area near to Abbeygreen Road, Lesmahagow.

“Emergency services attended but the nine-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing but there are no suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Police confirmed on Wednesday that the boy was nine-year-old Jordan Moore, a pupil at Woodpark Primary School.

Following a post-mortem examination, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

His family paid tribute to him, saying: “Our Jordan was the most loving, caring, happy, handsome wee boy. He’ll forever be in all our hearts.”

Detective Inspector Vicki Douglas said: “Our thoughts are with Jordan’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“His family are being supported by officers and have requested that their privacy is respected at this time.”

Debbie MacKenna, head teacher at Woodpark Primary School, also paid tribute to the boy, describing him as 'loyal and fun-loving'.

She said: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Jordan, who was a valued member of our school community.

“Jordan was an energetic, fun-loving boy who was loyal to his friends and family, and was loved by us all. His radiant smile, his singing and dancing and his sense of humour lit up our school.

“We keep Jordan’s family and friends very much in our thoughts and prayers, and we will continue to support our school community at this very sad time.”

A letter was sent out to parents and guardians at the school Monday informing them of the tragedy.

It is believed to have promised to support children in the school directly affected by the death, including providing psychological services.

Tributes have also flooded in online following the tragic news, Stacey Mcfarlane said: "So so tragic sleep tight wee man thinking of all the family"

Claire Kane chimed: "So so sad x sleep tight little man xx so sorry to all his family and friends x"

Sha Ron also wrote: "Absolutely heartbreaking. Sincere condolences to this young boys family at this very difficult time."

Tee Storie added: "In the arms of the angels!!! Rest easy wee j, absolutely heartbreaking"

Jacqueline Telfer penned: "My heart is breaking for this poor wee boy cant get him out my head, so tragic ..thinking of the family ..sleep tight Jordan"
