First Pictures Emerge Of Oscar Pistorius’ Prison Cell

Pictures have emerged of the prison cell where Oscar Pistorius was held for almost a year after killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The Paralympian received a five-year jail sentence for culpable homicide in 2014, but was released to house arrest in August of this year.

Now, the South African Supreme Court of Appeal is deciding whether the athlete will be sent back to prison to serve a sentence for murder.

Journalists have been invited to view the cells at the Kgosi Mampuri II Prison in Pretoria, where Pistorius was held.

The runner’s defence team had argued that he would be at risk of attack if he were sentenced to jail, particularly because he is an amputee.

They had argued that the prison is also unsanitary.

Journalists were shown his cell, which has a small single bed, a basin and a cabinet, as well as shared toilet facilities.

He is currently serving the rest of his sentence under house arrest at his uncle’s property in central Pretoria.

Paul Myburgh, the registrar of the Supreme Court of Appeal, said no date for the decision has been announced.
