When did you first watch porn? Boys who watch porn earlier ‘are more sexist’

Boys who are exposed to pornography at a young age are more likely to grow into sexist men who want to control women.

Researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln found that, on average, men are first exposed to porn at 13.37 years old – but some watch it as early as age 5.

They found a clear link between men who watch porn ‘early’ and those with sexist attitudes later in life.

Lead author Alyssa Bischmann said, ‘’The goal of our study was to examine how age of first exposure to pornography, and the nature of said first exposure, predicts conformity to two masculine norms.’

The age of exposure had differing effects on the two ‘norms’ – the urge to control women, and ‘playboy’ behaviour.

Many men said that they first saw porn by accident – 43.5% – while 33.4% watched it intentionally and 17.2% said it was forced on them.
‘We found that the younger a man was when he first viewed pornography, the more likely he was to want power over women,’ Bischmann said.

‘The older a man was when he first viewed pornography, the more likely he would want to engage in playboy behavior.’
