Fishermen catch HUGE 14-pound lobster after Hurricane Nicole hits Caribbean

Terrifying! (Picture: Tristan Loescher/Facebook)

It looks like the kind of beast to have emerged from the scenes of a classic horror film.

But this 14-pound lobster is very much real, and was caught by fishermen in Bermuda on Saturday after it was washed closer to shore by Hurricane Nicole.

Bermuda was battered by winds of up to 115mph as Hurricane Nicole embarked on a trail of destruction through the Caribbean last week.

And in the days after the hurricane hit, a fishing crew were hunting for snapper when they landed the giant beast.

A photo of the huge catch was posted on Facebook by Sanctuary Marine Bermuda - who now believe that the beast could be more than 70 years old.

Describing how the crew initially caught the beast, Captain Tristan Loescher said: ‘He had the hook caught around his toe, I wrestled him to shore.

‘I took a few pictures, released the hook as pain-free as I could, and then let him go.’

Commending their decision to release the beast, Facebook user Rich Kaplan wrote: ‘Great job releasing this beautiful senior lobster, not many fisherman would do this.. it was basically snagged also, an accidental catch, good job the right thing to do.’

But while the beast is a hugely impressive catch, it’s by no means the largest lobster ever snared.

That accolade goes to the lobster captured in 1977 that weighed more than 44 pounds - according to Guinness World Records.

Still, it’s a mightily impressive catch.
