Fishing rights for sale could be ideal Christmas gift for any angler

What do you get the person who has everything for Christmas? Well, if they are a keen angler and you just happen to have a spare £14,750 lying around, fishing rights on the River Barle could be the perfect gift for your loved one - or perhaps yourself.

The stretch of fishing is for sale on one of the Westcountry's finest salmon rivers and within walking distance of Dulverton in Somerset. Measuring approximately 195 metres, the single bank offers salmon and brown trout fishing, with the occasional sea trout, on a prime beat.

The River Barle rises on 'The Chains' on Exmoor and flows south and east to Simonsbath and Withypool collecting additional flow from other tributaries.
From Withypool the river flows to Dulverton picking up further flow on the way, before passing through the fishing rights being offered for sale and joining the River Exe at Exebridge.

The rod fishery is regulated by a series of byelaws, some longstanding, some more recently introduced and some time limited. The salmon season for this stretch is between February 14 and September 30, while the sea and brown trout season is from March 15 to September 30.

The fishing rights are located just off the B3222 between Dulverton and Brushford on the north eastern bank of the River Barle, straddling the well-known Beasley Salmon trap/Weir, on the southern edge of Exmoor National Park.

Access to the single bank beat is by foot from the end of Milham Lane across the fields running south, and also from Newbridge, Brushford.

Once you have hooked the catch of the day or if you want to stock up on supplies before a day of fishing, nearby Dulverton offers a variety of shops and is a great place to stop off for a bite to eat.
