Five fire appliances attend late night crash that closed A66 in Middlesbrough

A section of the A66 was closed for two hours last night as emergency services dealt with a two vehicle collision.

The incident happened shortly before 11pm on the busy dual carriageway shortly after the Cineworld turn off in Middlesbrough.

Emergency services, including several police vehicles were on the scene, and at least one of the cars hit the barrier wall at the side of the road. The east bound round was closed while crews dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said they were called to the scene at 11.04pm and in total five appliances attended.

They said: "It was a two-vehicle RTA and no persons were trapped. We stayed and made the scene safe." They added that there was a small spillage of fuel on the road from the incident which was dealt with by the firefighters.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said officers appealing for information and dashcam footage. They said: "The collision occurred at 10.50pm on Saturday, September 28 on the A66 eastbound, near to the cinema. It involved a silver Ford Kuga and a black Audi RS3. The road was closed for two hours whilst the incident was dealt with. Thankfully there were only minor injuries reported.

"Anyone with information or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision or the vehicles in the Middlesbrough area prior to the collision is urged to contact Cleveland Police on 101." Footage can be uploaded here.
