Five homes proposed for field adjoining Leicestershire pub
Five homes have been proposed for a field adjoining a pub in Leicestershire. The application, put forward by Aggregate Industries UK Limited, is for land between The Heathcote Arms and 5 Hill Street, Croft.
A plan submitted to Blaby District Council mentions a previously withdrawn application that was originally for eight homes. The new plan, for land located to the immediate north of Hill Street, is for five, three-bed homes, to be sold on the open market.
The applicant owns Croft Quarry, which is located to the north of the proposed site, which it also owns. The company said that the now vacant land once occupied a farmhouse "and numerous associated outbuildings" until demolition.

Planning documents note that the site can be accessed from Hill Street, via an existing driveway which leads directly to the site. The proposal also includes new vehicle and pedestrian access from Hill Street, with a new public road and 10 parking spaces proposed for within the site.
According to the application, one of the properties would be a single storey bungalow in the south west corner of the site, and to the front of the development, to "preserve the view of the tower of the Church of St Michael’s and All Angels".
The applicant also said that the site could not be seen from a public road, public footpath, bridleway nor other public land, due to the presence of a boundary wall. To the north of the site is Croft Quarry, which is a designated site of special scientific interest (SSSI).
The site is in flood zone one, as indicated on the UK government website, which means there is a "low" probability of flooding, according to Aggregate Industries UK.
Comments on the plans can be submitted to Blaby District's planning portal until Thursday, November 28. No date has been given for when a decision is expected.
