A huge explosion has rocked central Paris.

Buildings are being evacuated following the blast in which at least five people have been injured, according to reports.

The cause of this morning’s blast is not yet known, but it is believed to have been a gas explosion rather than a terrorist attack.

A police source told The Sun’s Scott Campbell the incident in the sixth arrondissement of the French capital was caused by a ‘domestic accident’, but this has not been confirmed.

‘I felt my floor shake and heard a loud noise, then it smelled like smoke outside,’ Jenna Binion told The Local.

‘There are a lot of people in the streets and I can hear a lot of sirens.’
The explosion reportedly took place not far from Montparnasse, on the left bank of the river Seine, and close to Ferrandi college. Witnesses say it took place on Rue Jean François Gerbillon.

Ambulances have reportedly been seen in the area.

The city is in fear of further terrorist attacks following the coordinated explosions in the city last November.
