Several sewage pollution alerts are currenly in place in Kent ahead of more heavy rain which could worsen the situation. Sewage has been expelled at five beaches on the south coast within the last 48 hours, according to campaign group Surfers Against Sewage.
This comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning from around 5pm on Thursday (September 26). It is set to last until 10am on Friday (September 26).
It reads on the SAS wesbite for the beaches in New Romney, Hythe, Sandgate and Folkestone: "Polution Alert: Storm sewage has been discharged from a sewer overflow in this location within the past 48 hours."

The alert in St Marys Bay is due to "Poor annual classification". It reads on the SAS wesbite: "This pollution puts water users at risk of contracting harmful illnesses including viruses and antimicrobial resistant bacteria. Pollution plagues our rivers, seas and coasts, making us sick, spoiling our favorite swim spots, destroying delicate ecosystems, killing our wildlife, and threatening ocean recovery."
