Five Kickstarter projects to get excited about

It's easy to take products and technology for granted, whether it's the latest smartphone, Bluetooth speaker or smartwatch, these days, the latest gadgets are expected to be high tech and full of features.

But every project and gadget has to start somewhere and sometimes these ideas come from sites like Kickstarter, where projects are put online and developers try and get crowd funding to enable them to develop it.

Here are five exciting techy projects we found that are nearing their goals, meaning they just need a little push before they could be the next gadget on your Christmas list.

SITU Smart Food Nutrition Scale

The SITU Smart Food Nutrition Scale for iPad and Android tablets has been introduced by Michael Grothaus and needs to reach £35,000 by 2 May.

It is a simple food scale that weighs your food in calories and nutrients, as well as grams and ounces. There is a Bluetooth chip inside that will talk to your iPad or Android tablet and you can place any food on the SITU to find out the exact nutrition information on the companion SITU app.

It means that you will be able to find out the nutrition content of fresh foods you are preparing, which will help those who like to calorie count, diabetics and those with high blood pressure.

The Mini Mobile Robotic Printer

The Mini Mobile Robotic Printer is a project by ZUtA Labs and needs to reach $400,000 by 10 May for it to be funded.

This is a stylish looking printer that will go everywhere with you and allow you to print from your phone, laptop or tablet on any size page.

It works by stripping the printer down the bare essentials - the printhead - and putting a small set of wheels on it to let it run across a piece of paper.

It comes with a rechargeable battery, power switch and will connect to any of your devices.

L.E.D Portable Charger

The L.E.D Portable Charger has been created by iD America and needs $30,000 to be pledged by 9 May for it to become a reality.

It is a high-capacity portable charger with LED lights that will make sure your devices are charged up on the go, whether that be your iPhone, iPad, smartphone or tablet.

The charger comes with two charging docks to keep it charged up at home or work and inside is a 5200mAh battery.

There are three touch-activated LED lights that offer three brightness levels and the lights can handle more than 100 hours on one charge.

Kolibree Connected Toothbrush

The Kolibree is described as the "world's first connected toothbrush", designed by Kolibree, and it needs to reach $70,000 by 25 May.

The toothbrush connects to any iOS or Android device with the aim to offer you feedback and gaming experiences.

It will take control of your dental hygiene by offering you data about your brushing habits, improve your brushing habits and offer games and motivating scores to help you improve brushing.

COVR Photo iPhone Case with Built In Camera Lens

The COVR Photo iPhone Case with Built In Camera Lens has been designed by Thomas Hurst and COVR and needs to reach $80,000 by 6 May.

It is a cover for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S that features a built-in lens to make it easier for you to capture great images from your device.

The protective case is simply pressed onto your iPhone and you'll need to download the app from the App Store, after which you are ready to shoot stills and video. If you want to use the standard iPhone camera, the cover can be slid down and you can shoot as normal.
