Six people – including one woman – have been arrested this week as part of the independent investigation into child sexual exploitation and abuse in Rotherham.

The five men, aged between 30 and 42, were arrested on suspicion of raping and indecently assaulting two girls under the age of 16 between 2002 and 2003.

The men, from Rotherham and Sheffield, South Yorkshire, are the latest to be arrested in relation to the investigation which has been dubbed the ‘biggest child protection scandal in UK history’.

The National Crime Agency (NCA), who are investigating past grooming offences in the town, have identified more than 1,500 potential victims and 110 suspects, with those figures expected to rise.
