Five smartwatches available or coming soon

Smartwatches are all the rage at the moment, with Samsung launching two devices alongside its latest flagship phone, Google announcing the Android Wear operating system, and more and more details appearing on the LG G Watch.

We have rounded up five smartwatches that are either available now, or coming soon, all enabling you to see your messages, calls and emails from your wrist.

Samsung Gear 2 - £299

The Samsung Gear 2 went on sale alongside the latest Galaxy S5 smartphone a couple of weeks ago and along with making and receiving calls, you will also be able to see your messages, emails and social network notifications if you choose to.

The Gear 2 offers a 2-megapixel camera, 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with a 320 x 320 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM under the hood, as well as a 300mAh battery.

It is IP67 certified meaning it is resistant to dust and water, plus it runs on the company's own operating system, Tizen but it is only compatible with Samsung phones.

Samsung Gear 2 Neo - £169

The Samsung Gear 2 Neo is a slightly cheaper version of the Gear 2 and offers very similar specs but you won't be able to snap pictures using your wrist.

The build is slightly different on the Neo, offering a more plastic design and it is available in Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange, which sees the Gold Brown of the Gear 2 replaced with the Mocha Grey.

Just like the Gear 2, the Gear 2 Neo comes with a range of fitness sensors such as a heart rate sensor, pedometer, gyroscope and accelerometer and it can also be used to track sleep and stress levels, claims Samsung.

Sony Smartwatch 2 - £150

The Sony Smartwatch 2 brings one-touch pairing with Sony smartphones but it will work with any Android 4.0 and above device.

It offers a waterproof casing along with an aluminium body and you can have a choice of a silicon or metal strap.

There is a 1.6-inch display on board that has a 220 x 176 resolution and it runs on Android so you will be able to access your emails, messages and music from your wrist.

Motorola Moto 360 - TBC

Motorola plans to walk down the Android Wear operating system route when it launches its Moto 360 smartwatch that is due to be released this summer.

The Moto 360 features a round face, which is different to its competitors and it looks like a conventional analogue device but it has a touchscreen and will be voice controlled.

By saying "Ok Google", you will then be able to search for important information, book a restaurant or check flight times and you will also be able receive alerts and notifications for your Android smartphone.

LG G Watch - £180 (approx)

The LG G Watch was shown off in the UK a couple of weeks ago, with a planned release date of July and since then more details have since been confirmed by the company.

The G Watch will come with Android Wear OS, like the Moto 360, and will be an always-on device, meaning you will only need to glance at your wrist to see the information you want.

There will be a 1.85-inch display, along with 4GB of internal memory and it will also be water and dust resistant like the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. Additionally, the G Watch will be button free and be voice activated like the Moto 360.
