Flag-Draped Casket of John Lewis Arrives at Air Force Base Before Public Viewing

A US flag-draped casket containing the remains of Georgia congressman John Lewis arrived by plane at Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Maryland, on July 27.

The casket was en route to Washington, where a public viewing would be held outside the US Capitol Building. Department of Defense personnel were recognizing the congressman with military funeral honors, the department said.

Lewis, a civil rights activist and Democratic congressman, was the first black lawmaker to be given the honor of lying in state in the US Capitol rotunda, reports said. Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
