Flames Extinguished After Reaching Grounds of Power Plant in Turkey, Local Officials Say

Flames from a wildfire that reached the grounds of a power plant in southwest Turkey were extinguished on August 5, local municipal officials said, as wider containment efforts continued.

This footage, released via the social media accounts of the local mayor, shows flames near the Kemerkoy power station in the Milas area of Mugla province.

The Mugla Metropolitan Municipality said on Thursday the plant and surrounding areas were evacuated due to the now-extinguished flames. There was no explosion within the grounds and no chemicals were leaked, authorities said.

Efforts to contain the fire continued in several nearby areas, they said.

The fire is one of more than 160 fires to have broken out in Turkey since July 28. Eight people were reported to have died. Credit: Muhammet Tokat via Storyful
