Flash Lights Up Seattle Sky as Windstorm Causes Power Outages

A windstorm in the Seattle region left hundreds of thousands without power on January 13, and prompted the National Weather Service to say flashes locals were reporting in the sky were likely “transformers or powerlines [blowing].”

More than 500,000 power outages were reported in the area, the NWS said.

Gusts of 50-59 mph were recorded on the Washington coast before midnight, the NWS said. Wind speeds reached 78 mph near Longview, they said. Credit: Boet Waldbjorn via Storyful
