FOUR flats in Stourbridge had to be evacuated when a car crashed into a shop front in the town on Friday (May 24).

The incident happened in Lower High Street at around 11.20am.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene after reports of a car having collided with a shop front.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the drama but residents in the flats above had to be temporarily evacuated.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said of the incident: “Shortly before 11.20am on Friday May 24, we responded to Lower High Street, Stourbridge.

“Fire engines from Stourbridge and Brierley Hill responded, the first arriving within three minutes of being mobilised.

“A car had come into collision with a shopfront.

“Four flats above the shop were evacuated as a precaution. No one was injured by this incident.

“Shoring up was completed by a builder and assessed by a structural engineer.”

The fire service said fire crews left the scene at 1.37pm.
