Flavor Flav Celebrates After Red Lobster Announces It Is Exiting Bankruptcy
Flavor Flav told Gayle King that the seafood restaurant has been a favorite of his for nearly 30 years
Flavor Flav was on a mission to help Red Lobster for two reasons: loyalty and cheddar biscuits.
Gayle King spoke to the rapper on her SiriusXM show, Gayle King in the House, about the latest development in Red Lobster’s standing after the chain filed for bankruptcy in May. In the months following the bankruptcy news, Flavor Flav rose up as an advocate for the seafood restaurant.
“They just made an announcement from Red Lobster saying that they’re one step closer to exiting Chapter 11 bankruptcy,” said King, reading off of a press release. “I don't see your name on this press release, but I have to believe that you had something to do with this.”
“I stepped in and tried to help them out because one thing that I could say, Gayle, Red Lobster's always been one of my favorite family restaurants since back in the 90s,” the hip-hop legend replied with a big grin.
He continued, “I've always been in love with their food, man. And mainly the biscuits. The biscuits!”
“The cheddar biscuits, right?” King said, matching his excitement.
“We gotta save the cheddar biscuits!” he said.
Flavor Flav’s love of Red Lobster’s biscuits, and the restaurant chain as a whole, came to light in the summer.
On Monday, June 3, he revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he had visited a Red Lobster location and made a huge purchase. He shared a photo of himself and two tables full of food — everything from chips and calamari to the chain’s titular crustacean. The rapper wrote that he “ordered the whole menu” and shared the food with his family: “Ya boy meant it when I said I was gonna do anything and everything to help @redlobster and save the cheddar bay biscuits.”
One month after the viral photo, it was announced that Flavor Flav’s Faves, a special off-menu meal, would be available at Red Lobsters nationwide. Flavor Flav’s Faves includes a Maine lobster tail, snow crab legs, garlic shrimp scampi, bacon macaroni and cheese and the customer’s choice of one side.
Flavor Flav’s efforts seemed to help the case. On Sept. 5, a press release from Red Lobster reported that the restaurant chain received the court’s approval of its Chapter 11 plan. This means that Red Lobster would be acquired and the restaurant would exit bankruptcy.
"This is a great day for Red Lobster," said the future CEO Damola Adamolekun. "Red Lobster has a tremendous future, and I cannot wait to get started on our plan."
Gayle King In The House airs Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. ET on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy channel 102.
