In the Flesh revival could still happen

In the Flesh ended after just two series, and on a cliffhanger – but now creator Dominic Mitchell has revealed he's (still) considering crowdfunding for a revival.

Back in 2017, Mitchell was talking up the possibility of a special to wrap up the series, and it looks like he's still gunning for it.

He also previously estimated that it'd require a "£3 million budget" (blimey!) and suggested that he might use fan funding as a way to finance the revival.

"Considering crowd funding for a #InTheFlesh 90min special. I know I said that was off the table, but something has to happen. Don't give any money to unofficial sites. Will keep you all posted," he wrote on Twitter yesterday (September 20).

In the Flesh starred Luke Newberry as Kieren Walker, an undead teen who's rehabilitated in the wake of a zombie outbreak. The series won a BAFTA in 2014 for how it used supernatural themes to tackle issues like xenophobia and depression.

Despite its success, BBC Three opted to swing the axe after just 9 episodes in 2014 – but in further tweets, Mitchell promised that the new special would deliver "closure" for fans.

Lead actor Newberry previously told us that he would "love" to play Kieren again.

"I was just surprised [by the cancellation] more than anything – and upset for the fans because they are so committed and passionate and loyal," he said back in 2015. "They really want a third series quite desperately!

"It's had two amazing series and there's obviously more to tell – there's way more – but I guess it's up to another company now coming and picking it up."
