When you board a plane, anticipating an exciting holiday, the cabin crew are always there to greet you with their impeccable professionalism and warmth.

They embody the highest standards of service and hospitality, ready with a friendly smile as you locate your seat. However, their responsibilities extend far beyond simple greetings.

Certainly, they're present to ensure the comfort of passengers, serve meals and beverages, and oversee safety, but their duties are more extensive than what's immediately apparent.

A flight attendant has recently revealed a little-known aspect of their role that has caught the attention of many online. A TikTok video by user @MrsMiva, who is herself part of a cabin crew, has gone viral for exposing a significant industry insider fact.

In her eye-opening post, she clarifies the real reason why flight attendants warmly welcome passengers as they step onto the plane, reports Birmingham Live.

She shared in her video: "Did you know that your flight attendant greets you not only out of politeness, but also to check whether you are too drunk or sick to fly? ".

This insight has astonished users, amassing over a million likes, with many expressing their astonishment at this discreet evaluation process.

One commenter was taken aback, saying: "Wait, is there a reason why they always ask me where I sit when I go onboard" Another added: "To see if you're 1. Safe to fly (not intoxicated) and to see if you could help in an emergency."

One person chimed in the conversation: "And looking for suspicious behaviour."

Another joined the discussion adding: "We are also picking out good candidates in the event of an emergency."

Among those posting their views were individuals sharing personal experiences. One frequent flyer disclosed: "I was denied an international flight from England to America because they thought I'd die en route from being so sick."

Another lamented: "True, and it's the toughest part of the day, without pay! ".

Not all agreed with the assessment shared, some opting to joke about the situation. A participant light-heartedly suggested cabin crew were simply attracted by their "cuteness and cosiness".

In response to these claims, a savvy traveller jokingly retorted: "No they greet me because they like me."

While another quipped: "No they say hi because I'm super cool and awesome - that's why."

Adding humour to the debate, someone said: "No - it's because they think I'm super pretty."

Generally, your flight attendant would give a warm welcome when you board the aircraft. Statements such as "welcome aboard" or "good morning/afternoon/evening" can usually be expected, along with a friendly smile.

No matter what prompts this cordiality, it is always valued by passengers. A gentle greeting helps assuage any flight-related anxiety, allowing travellers to relax in preparation for take-off.
