THE Cowes Floating Bridge has been suspended today (Thursday, November 24) due to extremely high tide.

Due to the tide, the vessel is unable to berth at the Cowes slipway, and the service will be out of action until at least 12.30pm.

The high tide has also flooded the pontoon at Cowes, so the Jenny boat foot passenger and cyclist service is also unable to launch.

Isle of Wight Council says it will continue to review the situation.

UPDATE 12.40pm - Due to the wind, the tide is dropping lower than expected.

The suspension has been extended until 1pm and a single crossing for foot passengers only will be attempted at 12.55pm from East Cowes and 1pm leaving Cowes.

A spokesperson from the IW Council said: "This will give a clear indication for how long/if the suspension is still required."

UPDATE 1.15pm - The Cowes Floating Bridge is operational and running a scheduled service.
