Flood alerts issued for huge stretch of Essex coast with warning about risk of local car parks

Flood alerts have been issued for large stretches of the Essex coast. Alerts have been brought in for a number of locations in Essex.

One alert covers from Fobbing to Purfleet-on-Thames with another from St Peters Flat to and including Shoeburyness and the Crouch and Roach estuaries. A third warning covers from Clacton to and including St Peters Flat and the Colne and Blackwater estuaries.

A fourth warning is in place between Clacton and Felixstowe including Orwell and Stour estuaries. The Environment Agency has issued a warning about "some wave over-topping and spray" in the Clacton area.

The Strood at Mersea Island, Coast Road and car parks on the front at West Mersea, and the Hythe and Promenade at Maldon may be flooded. Tides are expected to be higher than usual, due to the forecast weather conditions during spring tides.

Tide levels will be high at Battlesbrigde, and Hullbridge riversides. Creeksea Ferry Road onto Wallasea Island may be flooded. Tides are expected to be higher than usual, due to the forecast weather conditions during spring tides. Areas at risk are within low lying land around Corringham, Tilbury, Grays, Thurrock and Purfleet-on-Thames.
