Florida Burglary Suspect Struggles With Safe, Caught by Police

A burglary suspect struggled to steal a safe on May 16 from a St. Petersburg, Florida, business, and now he’s in police custody. Michael Murphy, 25, was charged with felony burglary.

Police released surveillance footage of the suspect struggling to break into the rear door of Burger Monger before sliding the heavy safe, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash, out of the business and through the parking lot.

Police said the heist took more than an hour. The suspect first spent 30 minutes trying to pry open the rear door before smashing the front door with a hammer to get inside, which is not seen on video. The remainder of the time he spent moving the safe out of the building. Credit: St Petersburg Police Department via Storyful
