Sheriff’s deputies rescued a kitten from a storm drain in Palmetto, Florida, on November 8, after a concerned citizen heard meowing coming from there.
Deputies Kaskiw, Sprague, and Williams devised a plan to rescue the five-week-old kitten. As seen in the video, the deputies, from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, lifted away an iron grate large enough to allow one to slide into the drain feet first. The kitten was several feet away and treading water, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputy Sprague mimicked a cat to lure the kitten in his direction. Attracted to the noises, the kitten swam towards Deputy Sprague. Once the kitten was close enough, he plucked the “wet, cold, and shivering” calico kitten out of the water, the sheriff’s office said. Credit: Manatee County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
